Yes they are. And in the need for help is growing rapidly. The online battle is never ending as technology is in a constant state of change. Just last week Google announced yet another search engine algorithm. It seems obvious that…
Online Marketing Does Not Stand Still.
Just a few months ago Google maps was flipped upside down with a change. This had a profound positive and negative impact for many local businesses. One thing is clear in all this chaos, you need to maintain your expertise. And part of that process includes constant education from reliable sources.
Which is Why Education Counts.
No one can deny the need for education. Learn on your own or purchase a course to maintain your knowledge but stay educated. With changes moving so quickly, doing this for yourself is critically important.
And Traditional Education Can’t Keep Up!
Things just move too fast. I have been in the technology field my entire adult life. And as a former VP of a technology consulting company I have hired, screened and fired countless people. Some good and some bad. When we had job openings there were two factors that stood out beyond all others:
1 – Industry Certifications
2 – Experience
Rarely did we concern ourselves with traditional education. Why? Ultimately, a college degree had little to do with your ability to do the job. And many times we had applicants with education from a completely different field. Our company always looked at formal education as a bonus and it definitely added credibility but it never determined who made it to the interview.
Why Certifications Rather Than A Degree?
It is all about credibility and relevance. In the technology world certifications typically changed annually. So current certifications expressed relevant industry knowledge. Certifications also showed us that applicants were committed to the industry. But certifications without experience bring little value (same as a degree).
Here is How Experience Is Easily Attained.
The fast-path is internship or volunteer work. Unless you have been running your own local marketing consultancy. Then you have “street cred” and perhaps customer testimonials. I have had a number of Street Fighter students take their experiences to a job application and turn a part-time passion into a full-time position.
What Is The Point?
The point is this. If you are struggling as an entrepreneur there are a growing number of jobs in our industry. Particularly if you have spent more than 3 months online then you are probably seeing the trend. More and more companies are realizing the importance of Internet marketing because of its ability to drive new customers into the business almost overnight. And they are realizing that failing to advertise online is competitive suicide. So more and more jobs are opening at companies every day.
If A Job is What You Need…
This idea might be right for you. But before you start running to fill out an application I suggest you take a look at this industry report.
